International Business

Bachelor of Arts

If you're looking for a career that offers you the opportunity to work around the world in growing and fast-paced fields, a bachelor's degree in international business from Mercyhurst University will take you there. International business majors are prepared for management careers in international banking, manufacturing, trade, finance, and government organizations, as well as for entry into graduate or law schools. Students learn about the global environment of business and develop a strong cultural awareness, essential skills for today's leaders.

Coursework includes a strong core business component, specialized international business courses for the upper-level student, as well as language and culture courses leading to fluency in the target language (Spanish, French, or Mandarin). Due to this requirement for a focused foreign language, most International Business students pursue a major or minor in a language to add to their marketability.

You will spend a semester studying abroad, providing expanded horizons and invaluable insights into other cultures. Faculty members in the international business program possess varied backgrounds in finance, economics, marketing, and accounting; speak several languages; and have a wide range of business and classroom experience.

Minors

The minor in business administration is open to non-business majors only. This minor includes eight courses (24 credits) designed to prepare students with general knowledge of the world of business, along with the communication skills and decision-making tools needed to succeed in business.

No minor course may be taken on a pass-fail basis, and students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.75 in the required business courses to meet minor program requirements.

Business Core Curriculum

The defining element of a Mercyhurst business degree is a series of core courses that all business majors take, which provide a curriculum designed to foster well-rounded business leaders through hands-on learning in a variety of disciplines. Business students will build a foundation in six different areas of study, which prepares our graduates to be adaptable, collaborative leaders who are ready for today’s market. Adding a double major or a minor in another area can only add marketability for any chosen industry!
